1.The Teagasc Signpost Programme
The Teagasc Signpost Programme is Ireland’s main farming initiative to help lower greenhouse-gas emissions from agriculture while keeping farms productive and profitable.
Ireland has national climate targets, and agriculture produces a large share of emissions (mainly methane and nitrous oxide). The Signpost Programme helps farmers reduce these emissions so the sector can meet its 2030 climate reduction targ
The Signpost Programme helps farmers measure their emissions and adopt proven farming practices that reduce methane and fertiliser emissions, helping Irish agriculture meet climate targets.
Focuses mainly on biodiversity and environmental protection.
Some measures indirectly reduce methane emissions by encouraging:
lower stocking densities
better grassland management
improved soil health.
Encourages breeding more efficient cattle with better genetics.
More efficient animals:
grow faster
produce more meat per animal
produce less methane per kg of beef.
